Elvin T. "E.T." Prather, 88, Arkansas City, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at the Presbyterian Manor health Care Center in Arkansas City.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at the First Baptist Church in Arkansas City. Interment will be in the Newkirk Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

Born July 22, 1915, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, he was the son of Fred and Gladys N. Stigleman Prather. He was raised in the Kildare, Okla., area and attended schools in Blackwell, Okla.

On June 28, 1942, he married Margaret Maxine Sprague in Newkirk, Okla., at the Free Methodist Church. They lived in Wichita were E.T. worked at Beech Aircraft. They later lived in the Kaw City and Blackwell areas until moving to Arkansas City in 1945.

After moving to Arkansas City, he worked a short time at the New Era Milling Company and later for APCO-total Refinery in the boiler House for over 30 years until retiring in the late 70's.

E.T. was a member of the First Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and head usher. He was a past president of the Kiwanis Club. He had also been a member of the Ark City Jayhawker Camper Club, served on the Council on aging, delivered Meals on Wheels and worked with the local Camp Fire program.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine of the home in Arkansas City; one daughter Mona Beth Gabriel and husband, Howard of Galt, Calif.; one sister, Ruth Pappan of Derby; and 16 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Guy Prather; and one sister, Belva Fellinger.

A memorial has been established with the First Baptist. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hawks Funeral Home, Arkansas City.
