Funeral for Charles Robert Pitman, 60, lifelong resident of Waukomis, was at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Waukomis United Methodist Church with the Rev. Harold Honnald officiating. Burial was in the Waukomis Cemetery under the direction of the Brown Funeral Home.
Mr. Pitman died Saturday morning, March 5, 1983, in an Enid hospital. He was born May 18, 1922, the son of Charles and L. Bernice (McDaniel) Pitman. He was a graduate of Waukomis High School and Oklahoma State University.
He served as a first lieutenant in the Army Air Corps during World War II in Europe. He was a navigator and a bombardier with the 15th Air Force. He married Claire Byrd on May 19, 1944.
Mr. Pitman was a farmer and rancher and part owner of the Pontotoc Construction Company in Ada until 1973. He was a member of the Waukomis United Methodist Church, Waukomis Lodge no. 161, Guthrie Consistory, and Adkar Shrine Temple at Tulsa.
He is survived by his wife, Claire of the home; two sons, Mike Pitman, Drummond and Tony Pitman, Waukomis; a daughter, Mrs. Mike DeLier, Oklahoma City; his mother, Mrs. L. Bernice Tuggle, Waukomis and six grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Waukomis United Methodist Church building fund.
