Victor C. Helvey, a lifetime resident of Jefferson County, passed away at his home in Powell, Nebr., July 20, 1950, at the age of 76 years, 9 months, and 17 days. He was born October 3, 1873, in a log cabin near Helvey, the son of Hannah and Thomas Helvey, early pioneers. On June 12, 1895, he was married to Miss Birdie Daniels and to them eight children were born. One daughter, Gladys, died in infancy, and another daughter, Mrs. Lurene Holtz, passed away in 1939. Mrs. Helvey preceded him in death in 1949.His early years were spent in farming. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad many years, retiring in 1939.Survivors include his children, Milton Helvey of Fairbury, Woodford Helvey of Steele City, Paul Helvey of San Diego, Calif., Mrs. Glen Powell of Powell, Mrs. Eugene Tinkham of Carleton, and Mrs. Ernest Koch of Gladstone, 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Orren of Powell, Ross of Fairbury and Donald of Hastings; and one sister, Mrs. Grant Blair of Fairbury. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Powell, Sunday, July 23, 1950, at 2:30 p.m., with Rev. W.H. Clark of Fairbury, officiating. Burial in the Powell Cemetery. Traum service.
