Maurice Edward Sloan, Ozark, age 56, passed away Sept. 15, 2009 in his home. He was born on June 12, 1953 to Joseph W. and Mildred Ballenger Sloan in Maryville. He lived in and around Burlington Junction most of his life.

Maurice graduated from West Nodaway R-1 High School in 1972 and attended and played football at Missouri Western University in St. Joseph.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Burlington Junction and worked for the West Nodaway School District for several years as bus driver and janitor before moving to Ozark where he worked for Wal-Mart Super Center for the last several years.

Maurice was preceded in death by his parents and a great niece, Michelle Malaga.

Survivors include: his sister, E. Suzanne Rasmussen and husband James; his brother, Richard L. Sloan, both of Burlington Junction; four nieces, Jennifer Worl, Julia Malaga, Jillinda Thornton, and April Sloan; one nephew, Brian Sloan; four great nieces, Ariana Worl, Rachel Malaga, Samantha Thornton and Alyssa Melvin; four great nephews, Nicholas Worl, Benjamin Malaga, Brayden Anderson, and Hayden Sloan; and numerous cousins.

A memorial service and inurnment will be at a later date in Maryville, under the direction of Danfelt Funeral Home. Local arrangements were under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark. Memorial donations may be directed to the family or the charity of the donor's choice.
