Lula Walker Bennett, 85, of Fitzgerald, Georgia died Saturday, March 20, 2004 at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, March 22, 2004, at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald, Georgia, with Rev. Randell Daniell officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00 to 9:00 Sunday evening.

Mrs. Bennett was born in Dodge County, Georgia, to the late Lee Walker and Mattie Mae Cook Walker. Her husband, Roger Marion Bennett, preceded her in death. Mrs. Bennett was a Gold Star Mother having lost her son, George R. Bennett, in the Vietnam War. Living in the community most of her life, she was a member of Central United Methodist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class. Mrs. Bennett was retired Head Housekeeper at Osceola Nursing Home. An avid seamstress, she was also a former kindergarten teacher at Jack and Jill Pre-School, a former Cub Scout Den Mother and Pilot Club member.

Mrs. Bennett is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Donald M. & Penny Bennett, Fitzgerald, Georgia; one daughter and son-in-law: Linda & Jack Frazier, Ozark, Missouri; brother: Leonard Walker, Waycross, Georgia; five sisters: Ollie Mullis, Fitzgerald; Connell Tucker, Cordele, GA; Wilmetta Warren, Albany, Georgia; Evelyn McCullar, Valdosta, Georgia; Ruby Evans, McRae, Georgia; sister-in-law: Alice Mae Bennett, Savannah, Georgia; 7 Grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
