David Sherman Styers (I always assumed he was a Sr. since my Grandpa, his son was a Jr.) is my maternal greatgrandfather. He worked for the B&O Railroad as a hostler (One who services a large vehicle or engine, such as a locomotive) in the 1920's.
He lived in both Maryland and West Virginia throughout his life. Not much is known about him since I never got the chance to meet him. He died the year before I was born in Baltimore, Maryland.
He was married to Eula Spriggs and they had at least 6 children: Bernice, Charles, Ethel Mae, David Jr, Anna Katherine, Clara J., and a baby girl that is simply recorded as Female Styers. Not sure if she died at birth or what but there was never a name and I never heard of this child born in West Virginia.
David Sr remarried, his second wife was a very tough woman by the name of Carrie. Together they raised Annie's son Reid until his death in Vietnam.
They lived in West Virginia but at the time of his death, he is recorded as residing in the city of Baltimore.
For some reason records say he was born in 1891 and not 1889 like the grave marker. Not sure also why my grandfather was a Jr since my Great Grandfather's middle name was Sherman.
For some reason the year of birth on the marker does not match the year social security death index has which is common it seems.
