Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today,Thursday ,Feb. 8 1973 at the United Methodist Church of Hill City for Arthur Herrick, 91, a pioneer Hill City resident.

Born in Iowa on Aug. 14,1881, Mr Herrick died at Itasca Memorial Hospital in Grand rapids on Monday, Feb. 5, 1973. He lived in the Hill City area since the fall of 1901.

Surviving relatives include two daughters, Mrs Ale (Vera) Burbeck of Fargo, N.D., Mrs. (Lois) Peppermint of Woodland Hills Cal.: a son Richard of Hill City; A sister Ada Melius of Renton WA..; seven grand children; three great grand children and several nieces and nephews.

Clergyman was Rev. John W. White. Internment was in Hill City. Arrangements were provided by Rowe Funeral Home of Grand Rapids.
Mr Herrick was a member of the Modern Woodsman of America for the past 66 years and of the Masonic Lodge(AF & AM) No.283 of HILL CITY for 57 years. Born and raised in Iowa, Mr. Herrick came to Hill City in the fall of 1901 and in those years worked in the saw mill at Hill City where he fired the boiler. He later worked for the Rabey Line Rail Road as master mechanic and locomotive engineer. After the abandoning of the railroad, he retired to his farm west of Hill City where he resided ever since.
He was married to Lavancia Mae Parker
in Benson in 1909 and she proceeded him in death in 1959. A daughter Naoma Kiger, also preceded him in death.
Masonic memorial services were provided by the Hill City Masonic Lodge.
