Death of an Old Settler.--Mrs. Mary Alsbury died at her home near Oakley on Thursday, April 19 at the advanced age of nearly 90 years. She was one of the early settlers of Macon county and was widely known in the eastern part of the county, having come here in 1828 or 1829. She was a native of Virginia but emigrated to Illinois from the vicinity of Galiopolis, O., with her mother and brother, the late Samuel Rea and another brother. The country was wild and unsettled at the time. The family liked the looks of the country about Oakley and decided to locate on what was afterwards known as the Thos. Berry farm. Mrs. Alsbury and her mother remained there with the team wagon and camping outfit while her brothers walked to Kaskaskia to enter the land and then walked back again. One son, John Alsbury, who lives at Springfield, and several daugters who resided with their mother survive her. The funeral was held Saturday.
