Rossie Libby
Rossie, eldest daughter of S. Appleton and Angelina Riley Libby, was born at Cascade, Dubuque County, Nov. 27, 1859, and passed away at her home at Arnolds Park, Nov. 3, 1948, at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 6 days. In 1928 she came with her brother, Wilbur, and sister,Annette, to the acreage east of Arnolds Park, which has been her home until her death last Wednesday. Rossie became a Christian in her youth and lived as she believed. At first she united with the Methodist church. Upon coming here she became a member of the Friends church, which she served, faithfully and well as long as she was able. During the time when chicken pie suppers were a part of the church program, she was always to do her full share of household ever was needed doing, from the picking of the chickens to the washing of the last dish.

As the oldest girl in a family of nine children she early learned to do her full share of household tasks, and was a homemaker all her life. Tho, as she said, she was never strong physically, she lived her life for others. Her hands always busy, often beyond their strength, were symbolic of her generous heart which understood so well, the need of the world for someone to do the simple homely tasks of life. Like the flowers which she loved, she gave herself humbly and unassumingly, to brighten the lives of all those who passed her way.

Rossie is survived by three brothers, Wilbur of Arnolds Park, Eugene of Portland, Ore., and Albert of South Dakota, and two sisters, Mabel, Mrs. Adelbert Phelps, of Whitehead, S. D., and Annette of Arnolds Park. Her parents, two sister and one brother preceded her in death. Rev. Hadley, a former pastor of the Friends church, delivered the funeral address, being assisted by the local pastor, Rev. Paul Baitto. Music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Mi Elston, assisted by the local church choir, with Mrs. Margaret Watson at the piano. Mrs. Arthur Wiese, Miss Mabel Henderson and Mrs. Valerie Atcheson had charge of the floral offerings which were many and beautiful; some of which were taken to the family at their home after the services.

Casket bearers were Arthur Wiese, Paul Mansmith, Martin and Jim Reed, Kenneth Orr, and Glen Pugh. Interment was in the Arnolds Park cemetery. Relatives from out of town attending the service were: Mrs. Mabel Phelps and son Lawrence of White River, S, D., Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Parks, Remsen, Ia.; Mr. Mars [sic]; Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Simon and Mrs. Lowell Dempster, LeMars, Aurella, Ia.
