Crawford Claude Lingle was born on Nov. 16, 1877 in Morgan County, Indiana. He was the middle child and only son of James Alexander and Malissa J. (Guy) Lingle. Crawford had a sister, Lillie Viola, and a much younger sister, Myrtle Nola.
Crawford grew to be 5'8" and was of slight build with light brown hair and blue eyes.
Crawford's father was a farmer. He died in 1900, when Crawford was twenty-two. Crawford continued to work the family farm alone.
Crawford was married on Jan 18, 1906 to Dessie A. Ellis. Together the couple had four children:

Dorthy Lorene Lingle Hagan
James Francis Lingle
Two of the boys, Otis and James, died as children. Their daughter, Dorthy, married and had a son, but drowned as a very young woman. Only their son, Verlis, out-lived them.
Crawford lived his entire life in Morgan County, Indiana. He and Dessie were married for forty-six years and died at the age of seventy-five.
