Eunice M. Hidinger

Mrs. Eunice M. "Tippy" Hidinger of Freeport passed away peacefully at 8:45 p.m. Monday at her home surrounded by her family.

Eunice was born in East Liverpool, Ohio, the daughter of the late William and Julia (Hall) Durst. Tippy was raised by her grandparents, Joseph and Della Hall.

Tippy ran a domicile care home out of her home for 54 years, retiring in 2007. She also was a foster parent for 27 years.

She enjoyed crossword puzzles, poetry, canning fruits and vegetables and gardening.

She is survived by her husband, David Hidinger; two sons, Ronald and Bruce McKenna, both of Cabot; two daughters, Maureen Stivers of Buffalo Township and Susan (Jeff) Swiklinski of Buffalo Township; and two stepsons, David (Mary) Hidinger of Freeport and Scott (Chris) Hidinger of Bear, Del. She also is survived by her foster child, Roy "Butch" Cavanaugh of Freeport; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded by her three sisters, Minnie Foreman and two sisters in infancy.

Hidinger Family and friends of Eunice M. "Tippy" Hidinger, who died Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, are being received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Redmond Funeral Home, 524 High St., Freeport.

A funeral service will be in the funeral home Thursday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Brookland Cemetery, Allegheny Township, Westmoreland County.
