For twenty years he was both father & mother to his children. He was then married to Mollie Carr and to this union were 4 children born. Three departed this life when only infants. One is still living, Lee Hale of Louisburg. His last wife lived only a short time, he then kept house for many years with one of his children.
Mr. Hale suffered the last few days of his life. Nobody knows except he and his Lord: for the last 2 years he was almost unconscious of his workings. Mr. Hale was loved by all who knew him and certainly a friend to the poor. He believed in doing everybody right. He has also spoken of the oncoming troubles of this generation, as a prophet of old. Why were these visions, knowledge and wisdom given him? Because he desired them, asked for them, lived in humble submission to God's will, always bore with patience and suffering his trials, persecutions and afflictions and last of all, he maintained the sweet and beautiful forgiving spirit of his Master always and at all times. Treuely a Godly, pure hearted man has left us. This cross-bearing Christian, God said, It is enough and took him Monday morning May 15, 1916 at the age of 90 years, 1 month and 20 days. For the last two years he spoke of his departure, tho he didn't realize he was so near the end. Mr. Hale leaves 7 children, 26 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild* and 3 half sisters to mourn his death. He has 4 children, 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren that have gone on before. Funeral services were held at the Crudington cemetery by Rev. Henry White.

FOUNTAIN HALE DEAD----DALLAS COUNTY'S OLDEST RESIDENT LAID TO REST YESTERDAY
In the passing of Fountain Hale who entered into rest at his home one half mile west of Buffalo, Mon. AM May 15, 1916, Dallas co. looses its oldest resident.
The decencent was born March 25, 1827, being 90 years, 1 month & 20 days old at death. He came to Missouri in 1860 settling near Louisburg, and had since been a resident of Dallas Co. He was a man of thrifty habits and by industry and economy accumulated considerable property, being the second largest taxpayer in the county. He was strictly honest & assessors have told us that it was Uncle Fount's custom to place in their hands while in his home all his notes & ask them to figure up the interest due & assess all that they considered of value. He was very obliging to friends & neighbors & his help to the poor was frequently commented upon, & has it not been said that "In as much as ye did it unto one of the least of these, my brethren, ye did it unto me,"
Mr. Hale had been married twice, both companions preceded him down the valley. He is survived by 6 children (can't read) Mesdames Nancy Gotsell and Virginia Grimes, Buffalo; Mary Hinkle, Goodson; Matilda Pitts and Sarah Kayes and Mr. Lee Hale of Louisburg; 34 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and three half-sisters.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. R. Sharpe and interment was in Cudgington Cemetery at Louisburg yesterday. (from the Dalllas County Reflex)
