Charles Heckel, Sr.76, a resident of Rice county for the past 37 years, died at 7 o'clock Saturday evening at his home south of Alden. He had been ill about a year. Mr. Heckel was born in Germany in 1858, and came to the United States in 1881. He was married in that year to Miss Anna Gretchen Lurnf, and they came to Rice county together in 1897, settling on a farm eight miles south of Alden. They moved to Alden in 1925. Survivors are three daughters and four sons: Mrs. Anna Ahrens of Greensburg; Mrs. Lena Ruch, of the home; Mrs. Hanna Loesch of Haviland; Charles M. Heckel, Jr., of Chase; Fred Heckel of Hutchinson; and George Heckel and John Heckel of Alden. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow, Tuesday, afternoon at the Evangelical church in Alden. Burial will be in Alden cemetery.- From Lyons Daily News, Mon. 2-5-1934.
