At some time in the mid/late 1910's, Earnest left his family and moved to Oklahoma to work in the oil field for Pendleton Petroleum (later became Phillips Pet). At the age of 22, he was inducted into the Army at Sapulpa Oklahoma on May 20, 1918

"Member of A.E.F from July 23, 1918 till July 6, 1919"
"Muse-Orgonne Offensive Oct. 10th to Nov. 11, 1918."
Earnest would marry Emma Florence Crowson and have one daughter, Earnestine, and twin sons: Muryle and Buryle.
The family lived in several Phillips camps. The children would marry and move away and then Emma Florence died unexpectedly on December 14, 1947.
Earnest would later marry Tiny Blanche Burns-Harwell.
