Betty Deviney Jackson, 83, of Waco, passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 26, 2009, in McGregor, Texas, after a brief illness. Services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 29, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Rev. Ron Durham officiating. Entombment will follow at Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, August 28, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home.

Betty was born in Maxwell, Texas, to the late Alice Lynn and Alton Homer Deviney, Sr. She graduated from Bruceville-Eddy High School in 1942. She attended college at Southwest Texas State University and received her Bachelor and Master of Education degrees from Baylor University. Betty was married to Travis DuBois, Jr., for 46 years, and they had two children, Travis "Trey" and D'Ann DuBois. After their father, Travis, died, she married her high school sweetheart, Dr. Harold Everett Jackson of Waco, in 1991. Betty was a career school teacher starting at Leggitt, TX, Bellmead, TX, and 30 years with Waco School District as an elementary teacher and counselor. She held memberships in AAUW, Baylor Round Table, and McLennan County Retired Teachers Association. Her passion throughout her life was taking family photographs, family history and memorabilia. Betty was a member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church for 50 years.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Travis; sister, Mae Beth Newman Henderson; and a brother, Willis Mauldin Deviney.

She is survived by her husband, Harold; daughter, D'Ann DuBois Pirkle Kantarski and husband, John, of Argyle, TX; son, Travis "Trey" DuBois, III, of Dallas; grandchildren, Summer Nicole and Brandon Drake Pirkle, of Lewisville; brothers, Alton Deviney and wife, Nancy, of Eddy, and Patrick Deviney and wife, Linda, of Bastrop; sister-in-law, Betty Merle Deviney, of Bruceville; brothers-in-law, Bert DuBois and wife, Doris, of Corpus Christi and Foy DuBois, of Eddy; and many cousins and a large extended family.
