Geraldine was the oldest child of Arvis Lee McKinnie and Zera Margaret Green McKinnie. On 10 April 1955, Geraldine McKinnie Weir and Hollis Lional Weir were married in West Monroe, Ouachita Parish, Louisiana.
Geraldine and her mother were the family genealogists. In February 1971, Geraldine joined Daughters of the American Revolution, and she was a member of Chief Tusquahoma Chapter. She had served as Regent and Registrar for her chapter. At the time of her death, Geraldine was serving the Louisiana Society as the State Registrar. She established the line of Jesse Cook for DAR. Some of Gerry's many other DAR ancestors were Richard Bass, William Day, John Grumbles, John Pierce, John Cole, John Garrard, John Barron, William Barron, Zadock Bussey and George Bussey. Gerry also had DAR ancestors Captain James Green, Josiah Norris and James Patrick, but she never did papers on these ancestors. Captain James Green was from her mother's direct paternal line. Although Gerry did not do supplementals on Captain James Green, James Patrick and Josiah Norris, her first cousin once removed did DAR Supplementals on all of these ancestors. Gerry's first cousin once removed established the ancestors of James Patrick and Josiah Norris.
In 1993, Geraldine connected the family to Stephen Hopkins of the Mayflower. The line goes from Green to Cook/Cooke to Hopkins. Gerry was the 10th great granddaughter of Stephen Hopkins. Stephen Hopkins was a passenger on the Mayflower and a Signer of the Mayflower Compact. His son Giles Hopkins, Gerry's 9th great grandfather, was a child on the Mayflower. Stephen Hopkins voyage on the Mayflower was his second trip to America. In 1609, Hopkins left England on the Sea Venture, and the ship was on its way to Jamestown. The Sea Venture was shipwrecked off of the coast of Bermuda. John Rolfe was also on the Sea Venture. In 1610, Hopkins finally arrived in Jamestown.
Gerry was also a member of the Northeast Louisiana Genealogical & Historical Society and the Scottish Society of Northeast Louisiana. Geraldine was the original owner and operator of North Monroe Flower & Gift Shop. She was a member of McGuire United Methodist Church.
She was predeceased by her parents and sister Eloise McKinnie Beaird. Gerry was survived by her husband Hollis Weir, sons Mark Kevin Weir and William Kendall Weir, 2 grandchildren, sister Judy Lynn Clack (1945-2007), nieces, nephews and many cousins.
