Almost all of her life has been spent in Des Moines County,Iowa. She attended rural schools and graduated in 1930 from Burlington High School. She served as secretary for Harry Miller in his insurance agency. Later she was the first administrative assistant for Ms. Josephine Elder, Director of the Burlington Hospital.
On October 12,1938 she was married in Danville, Iowa to Carl Joseph Schulz. In 1943 she and Carl moved to his childhood farm where they have resided since. She has been a very active member of First United Methodist Church, Burlington, where she was honored for her service with the Special Recognition Award for her contributions. She served a number of years as secretary-treasurer of the Homebuildrs Sunday School Class, was active in women to serve bereavement lunches, a group currently known as Caring Friends. Additionally, she wrote welcoming notes to new members of the congregation. She was secretary for the South Jackson school board and was a leader of the Farmaids 4-H club. For a number of years Gladys organized parents to serve the very popular sandwich supper served before home basketball games in Mediapolis Community Schools where her children attended. She and her husband Carl are parents of five children. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and five sisters.
