Curtis Matz was born December 14, 1824, in Cumru Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, the son of Samuel Matz. On March 13, 1853, in Fairfield County, Ohio, he married Priscilla Valentine, daughter of Noah and Mary Elizabeth Conrad Valentine. They were the parents of 14 children: Samuel, Noah, Daniel, Mary Elizabeth, Wilson, Sarah, Jennie, Emmaline, Harriet Ann, Ida, Malinda, Alda M., Ezra and Cora Priscilla Matz. Curtis passed away April 17, 1903, in Stoutsville, Fairfield County, and was buried on the 19th n Maple Hill Cemetery there.

Obituary for Curtis Matz, April, 1903:

"CURTIS MATZ DEAD. Fourteen Children Follow His Body to the Grave. Curtis Matz of Clearcreek Township, Fairfield County, died at his home Friday, April 17, of dropsy. He was 74 years of age. Mr. Matz is survived by his wife and fourteen children. Mrs. Matz was Miss Priscilla Valentine. The aged couple were married fifty years ago last month. The children are: Samuel, Daniel, Wilson, Noah, Mary, Ellen, Jennie, Hattie, Ida, Lena, Alda, Ezra, Cora and Emma. One child died in infancy. The funeral was held in Stoutsville Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Lutheran Reformed Church, Rev. Mr. Neff officiating. Burial was in the Stoutsville Cemetery."
