Mrs. Kauffman was born in Farrell on Sept. 2, 1909, a daughter of Anthony and Ermina Zappa DeMartinis.
She retired in 1987 from Our Lady of Fatima School after 19 years as the cafeteria nanager. Earlier in life she helped her father at their family grocery store.
Lucille was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, where she belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society. She also belonged to the Mt. Carmel Society and Sodality of Mary Society. Mrs. Kauffman enjoyed playing cards and belonged to different bowling leagues. Most importantly she loved spending time with her family.
Her husband, George S. Kauffman, whom she married Oct. 2, 1946; passed away June 21, 1954.
Survivors include: a son, George Kauffman of Hermitage; a daughter, Bernadette and her husband George Cheponis of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Johanna Vernille of Hermitage, and Anne and her husband Levio Baldarelli Sr. of Hermitage; three grandchildren, Dr. Jonathan Cheponis; Eric and his wife Kelly Cheponis; and Terri Lynn Cheponis; She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; five brothers, Frank, Angelo, Nick, Dan, and Ben DeMartinis; two sisters, Eleanor Casciato, and Ida Currie.
