John S.Allen was married to Margaret Maria Decker around 1836. He was born in Orange, New York, moved to Big Flats, Chemung Co., NY around 1870. His siblings were Henry J. (1802), Mary )E. Allen Ellison (1807-76), Sarah Jane (1815 ), Safarine Dewitt Allen(1817), David L. (1820), Susan (1822), Margaret E. (1823) He was a laborer but he was also a stone mason as were many of his sons (thus a beautiful headstone). He and Margaret had l0 children who were William , Elizabeth, Esther, Clark,Caroline,Don Pedro,Sarah, John Jr. (he died from a lung disease he contracted in the Civil War-buried in the Woodlawn Cem. in Elmira), Andrew, and Robert..
John S. Allen is buried in the Ashland Cem. in Chemung Co., New York with his wife Margaret (her parents were Peggy or Pat (possibly short for Margaret & Garrett Decker), and eldest son William (wife Mariah-also buried in this cem. with them). I found one grandaughter, Ida or Jan(mother was Esther) in the Bradford, Pa census. It is pretty will proven thatJohn[ S.Allen's father is Henry C. Allen (Rev. War) born in 1756 in Somerset New Jersey. . It is confirmed that John's sister
is Mary E. Allen Ellison who married Thomas V. Ellison from Warwick, Orange Co. New York and they are buried in the Warwick Cementery in Orange, NY. They also had a brother David L. and Anthony Allen. Anyone has any info on this family to help fill in the blanks, please contact me at EBRE911703@aol. Thanks! Jan. B (Great, Great, great grandaughter of John S. Allen
