Mina May (Skiles) Alt, 101, longtime Washington County resident, died July 29, 2009, at Yuma District Hospital in Yuma. Funeral service was held Monday, Aug. 3, at First Prebyterian Church in Akron. Interment followed at Akron Cemetery.
She was born Dec. 21,1907, to P.M. and Amy Florella Jackson Skiles in
Ballard, Mo. They moved to Washington County in March 1910. They homesteaded south of Akron.
She married Dan Alt on Dec. 21, 1931, at the Presbyterian Manse in Akron. They farmed north of Akron until 1935, when they moved to their ranch south of Akron. They moved to Akron in 1963.
Mrs. Alt was a member of the Presbyterian Church, the Washington County Farm Bureau, a 4-H leader for more than 30 years, the Elba Home Demonstration Club,
Washington County CowBells and the Colorado Catfiewomen Association, a charter member of the National Cattlewomen's Association, a member of the State and National Ladies Auxiliary of the Soil Conservation, the Akron Roundup Club and the Horse Square Dancing Team.
She is survived by hersons, Rodney and wife Sally of Surprise, Ariz., and Danny and wife Bernetta of Akron; daughters, Conne Gray and husband Roger of Akron, and Maridee Pruitt and husband Frank of Bradyville, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great- great-grandchildren; one niece; and four nephews.
Mrs. Alt was preceded in death by her husband, Dan, in 1999; one sister, Clarice; brothers, Carl, Harry; Perry and Glen.
Memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Akron or to the World Wildlife Fund.
