Wilhelmina "Wilma" M. Koch, 79, of Seneca, died Monday, January 19, 1998, at Country View Estates Care Home in Seneca. She had been a resident there since March 5, 1994.

She was born June 28, 1918, on a farm northwest of St. Benedict, the daughter of William E. and Anna Mohrman Lackey. She attended Sts. Peter and Paul School and St. Mary's School. When she was four months old, her mother died, and she was raised in her early eyars by John and Katherine Stuckhoff Lackey. As a young woman, she worked as a waitress at Carr's Cafe in Seneca.

On February 9, 1937, she married Marcellus "Marsh" J. Koch at St. Mary's Church, St. Benedict. They lived and farmed west of St. Benedict for a year before moving to a farm three miles west of Baileyville. In 1943, they moved to a farm south of Axtell, and in 1946 to a farm southwest of Seneca, where they lived for two years. They also lived south of Seneca and east of Seneca before moving into Seneca in 1955.

Wilma worked at the Seneca Hospital from 1954 to 1962 in the laundry. She also worked at the city hall as a part time dispatcher for four years. She did domestic work for several families including Lauer Funeral Home for several years. She retired due to a heart condition, and in 1983 she was diagnosed with Parkinsons disease. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1987 and had been married 58 years when her husband, Marcellus "Marsh" died February 26, 1995.

She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church, St. Ann's Altar Society and the Quilting Group at the church. She enjoyed latchhook work, gardening and canning for her family. She was a thoughtful person with a good sense of humor.
