Courtland "Cokey" Middleton, 84, of Pomona Park, died Saturday, May 8, 2004.

He was born May 3, 1920 in Pomona Park and attended school there. On June 24, 1940, he joined the Army, and received Basic Training at Fort Benning, Ga., attached to the 23rd Infantry. He was involved in the campaign in Northern France, campaign in Rhineland and was wounded in action in Belgium on January 18, 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart, two Bronze Service Stars, American Defense Service Ribbon and Good Conduct Medals and was honorably discharged.

On March 24, 1946, he married Anna Richardson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Susie and Haines Middleton; a sister, Louise Harrison; brothers, Worth, Chester, Easterlin and Danny.

He is survived by his wife, Anna R. Middleton of Pomona Park; sons, James A. Middleton of Parrish, N.Y.; George H. Middleton of Pomona Park; daughters, Susie Anna Sheeley of Richland, N.Y.; and Lucy C. Hammond of Madison Heights, Va.; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Downing Middleton of New Fairfield, Conn.; Allen Spencer Middleton of Leesburg; Alonazo Middleton of Pomona Park; and sister Martha Newton of Pomona Park.

A memorial service will be Friday, May 14, at First Baptist Church of Pomona Park. (Palatka Daily News Obituary dtd 14 May 2004.)
