A Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Sardis Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Madison with Rev. T.J. Easter officiating.
A Rockingham County native, Velma was born July 27, 1930, the daughter of Johnny Fountain and Myrtle Adkins Hurd. She was of the Baptist faith and attended Palestine United Methodist Church. Velma retired from Macfield.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Floyd Landreth, Jr.
Velma is survived by seven children, Ramona L. Tilley and husband Donald of Madison, Samuel Dwight Landreth and wife Hope of Madison, Wanda Galloway and husband Jimmy of Stoneville, Carl Douglas Landreth of Stoneville, Robin L. King and husband Frank of Stoneville, Vickie R. Landreth of Stoneville, and Angela R. Landreth of Mayodan; four sisters, Pauline H. Bowman, Erma H. Carter and Nancy H. Bullins all of Stoneville and Vera Lawson of Madison; 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Agnes L. Nifong.
