James H. Wetmore, 60, of Elk Point, South Dakota, died Wednesday, February 5, 1992, at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness. Services were held at the Elk Point United Parish Church with Rev. Chandler Welch officiating. Burial was in Fairfield Cemetery, Rock Branch, Iowa, with military graveside rites conducted. Arrangements were handled by the Anderson Funeral Home of Elk Point. Mr. Wetmore was born January 7, 1932, in Sioux City, the son of George Benjamin Wetmore and Adalaide Huse Wetmore. He graduated from Central High School and attended the University of South Dakota for two years. He served with the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He married Shirley Roland July 18, 1953, in Yuma, Arizona. In 1956 the couple moved to rural Meckling where he farmed. In 1960 he started the Wetmore Well Drilling Company. In 1978 they moved to Elk Point. Mr. Wetmore was a member of the Elk Point United Parish, Bert L. Smith Post 134, American Legion, and Nebraska Water Well Association. He was a board member of Upper Midwest Water Well Association and former board member of the East River Board. He was a former Elk Point city councilman. Survivors include his wife, three sons, Daniel of Sacramento, California, Michael of Grand Forks, North Dakota, and Joseph of Minneapolis, a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Deborah) Green of Pleasanton, California, his mother, Mrs. Adelaide Wetmore of Wakonda, four sisters, Mrs. John (Mary Ad) Tanck of Raytown, Missouri, Mrs. R.R. (Joanne) Bell of College Station, Texas, Mrs. Robert (Patricia) Arnold of Sioux City and Mrs. Sterling (Virginia) Peterson of Wakonda, and two grandsons.
