following the death of Catherine, he married a widow, Sarah Garver Lyons and they were the parents of five children: John Henry, William Asa, Maria A., Sarah E and Israel Washington


His remains were first buried on the family farm but later they were moved to Preston Cemetery.


Sampson was one of the first trustees of Marion Township.
