He was deployed with the UK contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.
Rfn Simpson was killed by an improvised explosive device while on foot patrol in Sangin, Helmand province. He was one of five soldiers from C Company killed by a secondary blast after an initial IED had injured several soldiers and an Afghan interpreter.
Aged 20, from Croydon, London. He joined the Army in August 2007 and previously served a tour of duty in Kosovo. Rifleman Simpson's passions in life were his family, boxing, football, karaoke, and his mates. He leaves behind his eight-month-old son, Alfie, his mother, Debrah, his father, Robert, and his two brothers, Lee and Jimmy.
A repatriation ceremony was held at RAF Lyneham on June 14, 2009. His funeral was held in August 2009.
