Mrs. Josie Sheldon Passes Away At 81
Expires Within Few Hours Of Infant Grandson Thursday

Mrs. Josephine Sheldon passed away at her home Thursday afternoon of last week, while sitting in a chair, resting. She had had a cold, and had assisted in caring for a little grandson, Caryl Kuehn, and the fact of the latter's death a few hours before may have had a part in bringing about her death, which came so suddenly as to be a shock to her family and friends. Josephine Maire was born at Galena, Ill. Feb. 1, 1853. She was able to remember Gen. Grant when he was a resident of that city. Late in the 50's she accompanied her parents to Minnesota and spent all of the rest of her life here. Nov. 4, 1869 she married Fletcher A. Sheldon, a Civil War veteran, who died in 1921. Her son, Percy, a World War veteran, died in the same year. Surviving are the following children, all residing near here: F.B., Arlie, Carl, Minnie and Lulu (Mrs. Emil Kuehn). A stepdaughter, Mrs. G.F. Haskell, lives at Morra. The surviving brothers and sisters are Mrs. Frank Clemens, Mazeppa; Mrs. Otho Beldon and Mrs. Sarah Kimm, Lake City; Fred, Brainerd; Jake; Mrs. Wm. Sheldon, Old Wives, Sask.; and Mrs. Leon Jacobs, Sebaka, Minn. There are 23 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mrs. Sheldon was prominent in the work of the W.R.C. and other organizations. She was respected and beloved by all who knew her. Among her many friends the grief was deep and sincere at her passing, and she will be greatly missed, while her devotion as a mother makes her loss felt keenly in her family. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 1:30 from the house, and later from the M.E. church in this village, where a large assemblage gathered to pay their last respects. Rev. Gilgert Rogers officiated. Interment was in the local cemetery.
