Surviving are his beloved wife, Marjorie Whittet Menzies Hatter, and his devoted daughter, Virginia Esther Hatter of the home; one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Gray of Newton; one brother, Jay L. Hatter and his wife, Lulu, of Morrowville, a number of nieces and nephews and many friends.
Rev. Hatter was born in Washington county. His parents were Joseph and Mary Jane VanAtta Hatter, both of whom preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were his brothers, John, Thomas Virgil, George Homer and Walter James; and his sisters, Della Hatter, Carry Unfred, Delphena Hatter and Nellie Grout.
Rev. and Mrs. Hatter celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Nov. 29, 1966, in their home. Many friends called and they enjoyed the day.
He also enjoyed going on short trips in the car with his loved ones.
Rev. Hatter lived on a farm north of Morrowville. He received the call to preach the Gospel after teaching a Sunday school class at the Dewey country church. He serve a number of churches. He was called to the Alta Vista Immanuel Methodist Church on March 1, 1927. Then to Broughton and Exeter in 1938, Hesston and Moundridge in 1942, Morland and Penokee in 1944, Grainfield in 1948, Byers and Cullison in 1952, Rozel in 1955. He retired to his home in Miltonvale in 1956.
Funeral services were held at the Washington Methodist church Friday, Nov. 24, at 2 p.m. with Rev. John Baker officiating.
Mrs. Helen Soller and Miss Winona Lee Beach sang, acompanied by Lloyd Holbrook, organist.
Pallbearers were Ralph and Howard Hatter, Lester Hillyer, Lester Zimmerman, Hubert Menzies and Glen Cairns.
Burial was in Washington city cemetery with the Ward funeral home in charge.
