Leo served as a Staff Sergeant on B29-5-BW Superfortress "Defiant L-assie" #42-6280, 678th Bomber Squadron, 444th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Queens County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on November 12, 1942 in New York City, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents.

He was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant on August 1, 1944.

Leo was "Killed In Action" when his B-29, while on a bombing mission over Northern China, struck a mountainside near Fuling, China during the war. He was awarded a Purple Heart.

He was originally interred overseas and was later repatriated here on November 2, 1949.
