OBITUARY - Plain Dealer, Wabash (IN)
WABASH CHILD DROWNS IN WISCONSIN.
Tragedy struck a Wabash family on the eve of their return from a vacation when Anita Hettmansperger, 9 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Truman H. (Bud) and Geraldine Hettmansperger, 145 Manchester Avenue, drowned in Prairie Lake near Chetek, Wisc. over the weekend.
According to the family, Anita was playing in the shallow water along the lake's edge with the 6½ year old daughter of the owner of the Walton Lodge where they were staying. The daughter suddenly ran to her mother and said that something was wrong with Anita. The mother rushed to the water's edge and found the Hettmansperger child floating in about three feet of water. A Chetek physician was rushed to the drowning scene with pulmonary equipment within 10 minutes after the accident but failed to revive the child despite the fact that she had been in the water only two or three minutes. The accident occurred about 5 p.m. Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Hettmansperger left Wabash two weeks ago for a fishing trip and vacation in Wisconsin. They would have ended their vacation Sunday.
Anita Hettmansperger was born in Wabash on June 13, 1940. She was a student of the fourth grade of the Century School and was a member of the St. Matthew's Evangelical and Reformed Church here.
In addition to the parents, a brother, Buddy Raymond, the paternal grandparent, Mrs. Carrie Davis, near Marion, and the maternal grandparents, Mrs. and Mrs. Raymond Thomas, Marion, survive.
The body is being returned to Wabash by the Wire Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.
