Eleanor was the fourth child of a family of eight children. Two brothers and tow sisters died and were buried enroute to Utah. Her family arrived in Salt Lake City between 1849 and 1850.

My mother died when I was a babe six months old, with what we now claim to be appendicitis. On her dying bed she asked my father to let her parents raise me.
