He was born in Canton March 18, 1924, the son of Emmitt and Edna Logstrew Ellison. He was raised in the Canton and Monticello area. He attended school in Monticello and had completed two years of business college.
Mr. Ellison served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946 and served in Guam.
He married Mae L. "Maizie" Foust in Oklahoma City, Okla., in June 1946. Mr. Ellison moved to Chillicothe in 1955. He was a bookkeeper and office manager for Council Feed, John Rupp Oil and Barnes-Baker Motors, all of Chillicothe, and Swift Company in Carrollton. He retired in March 1990 from Barnes-Baker Motors after 12 years.
Mr. Ellison was a member of St. Columban's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council 1084 and Vern R. Glick Post No. 25, The American Legion.
He is survived by his wife of the home; four sons, Mike of Bonner Springs, Kan., Tom and Christopher, both of Gladstone, and Pat of Nevada, Mo.; three daughters, Jean Gastineau of Celina, Texas, Judie Carr of Independence and Margie Lowe of Wheeling; two brothers, Wayne of Tulsa, Okla., and Michael of St. Peters; five sisters, Isabel Dickhuber of Kansas, Margueritte Ventura of Kansas City, Kan., Martha Couch of Brookfield, Stella Abolt of Ft. Madison, Iowa, and Jean Munzlinger of St. Louis, and 13 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, two brothers and a sister.
