Virgie was born July 1, 1912 in Grimes to Mary Stella and George Elgin
Stevens and died Saturday at the age of 84.
Virgie received her teaching certificate from Southwestern Oklahoma State
University in 1933. She married W.C. Kahoa on November 18, 1933 in the
Sayre Methodist Church Parsonage. They made their home in the Sunny Point
community where they farmed and operated a Registered Milking Shorthorn
dairy until they retired in 1963.
Virgie was active in the Sunny Point Extension Homemakers Club where she
held several county and state offices. She served a president of the Pioneer
Club, and was also a member of the GFWC, Sorosis Club, the Self-Culture
Club and the Oklahoma Federated Women's Club, holding district and state
offices as well as receiving several achievement awards. Virgie was listed
as a member of the 12th edition of Marquis Who's Who of American Women
in 1981-82.
She was a member of the Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by
her parents, husband and four sisters.
Survivors include 2 sons, A.A. (Junior) Kahoa and his wife Mary Ann of
Collinsville, G.M> (Mike) Kahoa and his wife Linda of Cheyenne, 2 daughters,
Naomi Hagerman and her husband Chrles, of Sweetwater, Connie Jefcoat and
her husband, Melvin of Reydon; 19 grandchildren, 40 great great grandchildren,
2 great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of other
relatives and friends.
Services will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Rose Chapel officiated by
Ray Smart. Interment will be in the Dempsey Cemetery, Roger Mills County,
OK under the direction of the Rose Chapel Funeral Service.
Family requests memorial donations be made to the Virgie Kahoa Citizenship
Award-Roger Mills County 4H or your favorite charity.
