Obituary:
Died, at his home near Davis City, Iowa, April 7, from injuries received by a horse falling on him, JULIUS MARTIN, aged fifty-eight years, eight months, twenty-seven days.
JULIUS MARTIN was born at Keosauqua, Van Buren County, Iowa, August 10, 1838. He was married to SARAH LASLEY, September, 1863, to which union seven children were born, two of whom died in infancy -- CLARA and MAY. The remaining five are PERRY, CHARLES E., ABNER W., MRS. ELLEN MCCLARAN, all of whom were present at the time of his decease.
He moved to Decatur County about fifteen years ago and has resided here until a year ago, when he moved to Missouri. He had just moved back to his farm in Decatur County when the sad accident occurred which resulted in his death. He lived thirteen days after he was injured, and though his sufferings were intense he seemed not to be alarmed and had a cheerful word for all. The remains were laid to rest in the Lamoni [Rose Hill] Cemetery.
Father, thou art gone to the grave--we no longer deplore thee,
Tho, sorrows and darkness encompass the tomb;
The Savior has passed through its portals before thee,
And the lamp of His love is thy guide through the gloom.
Thou art gone to the grave--we no longer behold thee,
Nor tread the rough path of the world by thy side;
But the wide arms of mercy are spread to unfold thee,
And sinners may hope since the sinicss (sic) last died.
