George Skyles, formerly of Lee co., Ia., died at his home at Murdock, Nebraska Thursday, according to word received here. He was born in Jefferson Twp., Lee co, IA on June 15, 1840. He enlisted in the Union Army in Keokuk, Ia. in 1861 and served throughout the war, returning to Iowa when it was over. He married Helen Brown of Hancock co, Ill. and they immediately went to farming in Nebraska. His wife died Feb 2, 1932. He is survived by 2 daughters and the following brothers and sisters: Thomas Skyles, Fort Madison, Iowa; Mrs. W.H. South, Fort Madison; Mrs. James Griswold, Montrose; Frank Skyles, Mrs. Nancy Snively, West Point, Ia. Funeral Saturday at Murdock, Neb. Buried there.
He served with Co. A of the 13 IA Infantry and attained the rank of Sgt. per list of veteran burials.
