Pioneer Woman Is Called - Mrs. W. E. Partridge Dies at Home of Son in Alta on Wednesday October 15, 1924 - 23 Great Grandchildren - Came to Buena Vista County and Settled on Farm of Virgin Prairie in Nokomis Township - Wednesday morning witnessed the passing on of another old pioneer of the vicinity, when Mrs. Harriet Partridge passed peacefully away at the home of her son Frank Partridge in Alta, from complication of diseases. She had been ill for some few weeks but not dangerously so, and in a way her death was unexpected. Harreit Cottew was born in Lancastershire, England, on February 2,1843 and passed away at the home of her son Frank Partridge in Alta, Iowa on September 15, 1924 at the age of 81 years 8 months 3 days. At the age of two years she came with her parents to America and settled at LaSalle, Illinois. She was united in marriage to W. E. Partridge at Ottawa, Illinois in June 1860. To this union there were born ten children. 6 boys and 4 girls, of which one son died in infancy and one daughter Martha died some time ago. In 1862 [s.b. 1882] Mr. and Mrs. Partridge moved to Alta and settled on a farm on the virgin prairie in Nokomis township. There they made their home for many years improving the place and cultivating the land for 27 years, until they moved to Alta in 1908. Mr. Partridge died in 1910, and since that time she has been making her home with her son Frank who is unmarried. There are left to mourn her loss, Ger. W., Charles E. and Frank Partridge and Mrs. Reese of Alta, Abraham L. Partridge of Wisconsin; Hugh E. Partridge of Ft. Dodge, Mrs. Geo. Tutt and Mrs. John Sassman of Marathon, sons and daughters and 33 grandchildren and 23 great-grand-children, besides two sisters Mrs. Henry Shults and Mrs. Ed Moore of Nebraska. The deceased was a member of the Alta Methodist church which she joined in 1884 and from which edifice the funeral services were conducted on Friday afternoon by Rev. G. W. Eggleston, and the internment was made in Woodlawn Cemetery. - The Alta Advertiser, 23 OCT 1924, p. 1 top of col.

Mrs. Ed Moore of Gothenburg came Thursday to attend the funeral of her sister, Mrs. W. E. Partridge held on Friday of last week. Mrs. Mary Ann Schultz of Unadilla, Nebraska came Thursday to attend the funeral of Mrs. W. E. Partridge. Mrs. Schultz and Mrs. Partridge were sisters. - The Alta Advertiser, 23 OCT 1924
