The information below is from a newspaper article published to locate next of kin for those interred in this cemetery. This cemetery is known as both "Valley View Cemetery" and "Swartwood Cemetery".

Pike Co. Dispatch Thursday Dec 7, 1972

NOTICE

This is the fourth of a series of Notices by Gannett Fleming Corddry and Carpenter, Inc., Engineers, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, for information needed by them to complete a survey and report concerning the existing cemeteries on the Pennsylvania side of the proposed Tocks Island Lake. The survey is being made for the Philadelphia District, Corps of Engineers, for the purpose of determining the actual number of graves, the names of the deceased, and the names and addresses of the next of kin or nearest living relative.

This Notice seeks information about the following:

- VALLEY VIEW CEMETERY -

Located about 3.25 miles north of Bushkill in Lehman Township on a hill just west of Route 209. The following names or initials were taken from headstones:

(A list of names follows, among them the interred person here.)

NEW INFORMATION PROVIDED BY FAG CONTRIBUTOR #47582697 --
While browsing the images in Family Search's Pennsylvania Probate Records I happened upon an entry which surprised me:
William Custard's Last Will and Testament & Probate, Wayne Co Wills, Vol. I, No. 12, are both dated 1806. His tombstone, located at the Swartwood burying ground in Pike County Pennsylvania, bears a death date of 1826.

I've detailed the error with an image and a link to Family Search, together with my photo of his & Sarah's tombstones (which are all over Ancestry.com - used without permission or credit) in a blog entry here:

Thought you might be interested in joining me to correct the date by noting this error in your bio of William. I've added an update to the current caption for my photo on your memorial for him.

I suspect the origin of the error was the 1933 transcription in the book, Cemeteries, Graveyards and Burying in Pike County Pennsylvania IF the replacement headstone postdates the transcription.

----------------
William Custard actually died in 1806. This is proved by his will in the Wayne County PA probate records, vol 1 - 2, image 13. The will was written 21 June, 1806. Letters of Administration were granted 10 October, 1806, indicating that he had passed away prior to that date.

Perhaps 1826 was the date in which the stone was erected.
