Biographical Summary:
Mr. Jesse A. Harris, Sr. came to Fort Collins around 1879, at the age of 11. In 1890, he married Miss Ida A. Bloom at Boulder. She died in 1942. His daughters include Mrs. Toney Reed [formerly of Denver, then of Dumont, Colorado], Mrs. Charles H. Jones [218 North Whitcomb Street, Fort Collins, Colorado], Mrs. Nona Cox of San Rafael, California and Mrs. Hazel Adkins of Omac, Washington. His sons include Jesse A. Harris Jr. of Denver and Lester M. Harris of Colorado Springs. In 1960, he had 108 living descendants including 20 grandchildren, 68 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren. Mr. Harris Sr. farmed in this area for many years, as well as operating a hay baler and livestock feed business. Before farming, Jesse, Sr. was a contractor, building many houses in Fort Collins. Jesse Harris, Sr. was a cousin of the Jesse Harris who came to Fort Collins in 1878 and, later served as a member of the State Board of Agriculture and mayor of the city.
