Joseph Murphy died at the age of 18, in Afghanistan, in the line of duty. He was from Castle Bromwich, in Birmingham, England. While trying to save the life of a Platoon Buddy and close friend, Rifleman Daniel Simpson, during a bomb blast that shook their patrol. As a second bomb detonated, while Rifleman Murphy was trying to carry his pal to safety, they both were killed. Joseph Murple joined the 2nd Battalion of the Rifles in November of 2008 after attending the Army Foundation College, then completing the Combat Infantryman's Course in Catterick, England. He is survived by; His parents, Jill and Brian Murphy, and an older brother, Benjamin Murphy.
