Ray and Nancy were predeceased by a daughter, Beth Batson Wilkerson who died at the young age of 40. Beth died on November 27, 1993. On December 10, 1993 Ray and Nancy had the following announcement placed in the Spartanburg Herald:

The Reverend and Mrs. Ray Batson express sincere appreciation to our many friends throughout Spartanburg and Spartanburg County for the many prayers offered in behalf of our daughter, Beth Batson Wilkerson, during these seven years she fought the battle with cancer. On Saturday evening, November 27, 1993, she went home to be with the Lord. We are also grateful for the many expressions of love and concern shown us during this time.

During these past seven years many of the churches have kept her name on their prayer list every week. Even though she was not healed physically, we know she is now at peace with the Lord.

I will foever be grateful for the years the Lord permitted me to serve here in Spartanburg COunty as Pastor and Director of Missions. May the Lord continue to bless all of you.

Sincerely,
Nancy and Ray Batson.
