John H. Dick
The subject of this notice, whose death, at his home in Jackson Township on the morning of January 11th, has been noted in these columns, was at the time of his demise aged fifty-eight years, six months and eighteen days. He was born and raised in Indiana County, where, on October 1, 1857, he united in marriage with Miss Crissey E., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Steetle, who with eight children, survive him as follows: Sarah M., wife of Samuel Miller, of Morrellville; Charles A. of East Wheatfield Township, Indiana County; James W., of Morrellville; Alfred D., of Jackson Township, Cambria County; Annie L., wife of J.B. Sharrar, of Derry, Westmoreland County, and Minnie C., Harry C., and Birdie D., who are single and at home. One son—Joseph—died in Morrellville three years ago. The deceased is also survived by one sister and one brother—Mary A. Dick, of Morrellville, and Albert Dick, of Canton, O. During the days of the old Pennsylvania Canal, Mr. Dick was employed for several years as a boatman, and he served his country in the War of the Rebellion as a member of Company A, One Hundred and Second Regiment, Pennsylvania Reserves. The cause of Mr. Dick's demise was lung trouble, and during his long sickness he bore his suffering without complaint, and left a large circle of friends and relatives to mourn the loss of a loving husband, a kind father, and a good neighbor. He was for years a consistent member of the United Brethren Church. The funeral took place last Sunday morning from his late residence, Rev. Doak, of Armagh, officiating. Interment was made in the Nineveh Cemetery.
