James Heber Ashby, age 70, died on January 10, 1997 in Salt Lake City.

Born June 20, 1926 in Mammoth, Utah, a son of Heber Latham and Beth Justice Ashby. Married Leah Lloyd on July 10, 1948 in Salt Lake City. She died on November 16, 1992.

Jim had a lifelong love of barbershop music and was an avid hunter, fisherman, and camper. He enjoyed performing in community theaters and as a Beehive Statesman.

Survived by children: Ronald Ashby, Murray; Angela Johnson, Salt Lake City; Mitchel (Beth) Ashby, Draper; Steven (Jean) Ashby and Brian (Christy) Ashby, both of Taylorsville; 24 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Purington. Preceded in death by wife, Leah; daughters-in-law, Shellie and Kathy; and sister, Mattie. He loved his grandchildren and was loved by them. We will miss him greatly.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at 12 noon at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road (1700 West), where friends may call on Wednesday from 11-11:45 a.m. Interment: Murray City Cemetery.
