Waldemar Anders ‘Walt' Larsen was the son of Edward and Amanda Jenson Larsen. He was born in Brigham City and came to Millville as a small child. He attended Millville School and South Cache High School, and he enjoyed the activities of church and school. As a youth, he began working at his father's blacksmith shop. He worked as a welder. Later, he was an instructor at The Los Angeles Ship Building and Dry Dock Corporation during the early part of World War II. He joined the Navy and served for over two years in the Asian Pacific Area.

On September 1, 1950, Walt married Geraldine Stoddard in the Logan LDS Temple.
