James Allen McLean Gustin Sr., 86, of Winchester and Brewster died Monday, June 4, 2007.
Born in Arlington, he lived in Winchester for 60 years with his wife, until they retired to their summer home in Brewster. His wife, Sylvia (Robinson) Gustin, died on Jan. 28, 1991.
He was a graduate of Tufts University School of Engineering in 1943. After graduating from Tufts he joined the U.S. Navy and became a lieutenant junior grade during World War II and fought in the Pacific Theater.
He was the owner of Twinbrook Motors, a Lincoln-Mercury dealership in Waltham and Gustin Auto Sales, also in Waltham, for 38 years. He was the subsequent owner of the Winchester Arms on Washington Street in Winchester. Originally constructed by his father, Lester C. Gustin, The Arms, as they were known, was one of the first garden apartments built in New England.
Mr. Gustin was a past president of the Pilgrim Church Men's Club in Harwich and a past president of the Kiwanis Club of Chatham and Waltham.
He is survived by his children, James M. Gustin, Jr. and his wife Mia of Winchester, Douglas E. Gustin and his wife Ronna of Dover, N.H., Cynthia Gustin of Aptos, Calif., Diane Lombard and her husband Paul of Huntsville, Ala. and Susan Taggart and her husband John of Port St. Lucie, Fla.
A private graveside service was held Saturday, June 09 at the Lower Road Cemetery in Brewster.
