Death: Jan. 8, 1892

Lydia was born near Nashville, Tennessee. Her parents and she left Tennessee in 1811 to settle in Missouri. They traveled in a covered wagon and camped along the Illinois River, then called the Big Muddy River.

"While they were camped on the Big Muddy River, all of a sudden the ground shook so, and the earth ran in waves, like water causing the tree tops to clash together, making an awful sound which they never forget. They had just unhitched the horses from the wagon. The wagon ran down the wave of the earth and the horses could hardly be controlled." This was called the New Madrid earthquake.
