Mr. and Mrs. Homer A. Bowls [Bowles] of Hall received a beautiful valentine in the shape of a baby girl, born Sunday, Feburary 14. Mrs Bowls [Bowles] is a daughter of County Commissioner and Mrs. S.M.C. Hughes of Hall.

On Maxine Bowles' birth certificate she is given the name of Maxine Valentine Bowles; when her mother died in 1918 Agnes Mitton & Joseph Mitton raised her and her brother, Bernard. Maxine had her name changed when she was blessed in the LDS Church to Vera Maxine Bowles "Because it was simpler." From then on she is known as Vera Maxine Bowles on all records.
