Robert Clay Waitt was a son of Darius Samuel Waitt (1850-1891) and his wife Harriett Virginia Reese (1856-1929). His paternal grandparents were Kendall Bailey Waitt (1811-1893) and Emily Hodgkins (1813-1895); and, his maternal grandparents were Joseph A. Reese (1817-1893) and Elizabeth Ann Scarlett (1832-1907).

Robert was a civil engineer living in Richmond, Texas in 1917. He evidently moved to Virginia and joined the Army during World War One. A roll of honor in the "Virginia Magazine of History and Biography" says Robert Clay Waitt, pr., died of disease betw. March 8 and Oct. 18, 1918, at Camp Humphreys, Va. Home: 5 A Touraine Apts., Norfolk, Va.
