Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday
from St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Scripture and Rosary
services will be said at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, from St. Anthony's Catholic Church.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military graveside rites by American Legion Post No. 20.
Officiating will be Father Kenneth Koehler and Father James Kane.
Mr. Cucarola was a retired farmer. He was born May 3, 1891 in Italy, a son of Frank and Mary Cucarola. He came to the
United States when he was 14. He worked in gold mines in
Ourey, later moving to California where he held various jobs.
During World War I, he served in the U.S. Army, enlisting in 1918 in Oakland, Calif. He was discharged later that year after serving as a private with the 45th Spruce Squadron A.S.A.P. He received a Bronze Victory button.
He married Annie Piazza in Knobview, Mo., on April 21,
1919, and started farming in the spring of 1920 in the
Padroni area. He farmed until 1946 when he moved to
Denver. In 1972, he returned to Sterling.
He was a member of the St. Anthony's Catholic Church, a life member, DAY, and a past member of Elks Lodge No. 1336, the Sterling American Legion Post No. 20, and the Last Squad of the American Legion.
He is survived by his widow, Annie, of 214 S. Second St., two sons, Joe Cucarola and Gene Cucarola, both of Sterling, 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
