A.A. Sides, 68-year-old Caruthersville farmer, was buried Tuesday afternoon at Maple cemetery near this city. Mr. Sides was found in a ditch near his home in the Marvin Chapel community Monday, where he had been paddling around in a boat. It is believed he suffered a stroke and fell into the water from the boat, as investigation showed there was no water in his lungs and there was a bump on his head such as he might have received in falling. He was pronounced dead at his home at 9:15 Monday morning.
Mr. Sides had suffered one or more strokes during the past three years, and had been in ill health slightly longer than that. He was born in Cape Girardeau county on August 19, 1870, and moved to Pemiscot county more than thirty years ago.
He is survived by four sons, Cyrus, Dale, Leslie, and Ora, all of whom lived at the home place; three daughters, Eutha Doane of Braggadocio, Louise McElvoy of Hayti, and Ona Joiner of Caruthersville; and twenty grandchildren. His wife died in March, 1938.
Funeral services were conducted at the home at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon by the Rev. Mr. Margrave and the Rev. Mr. Bess of Hayti.
